registration of births
a compulsory procedure under which births must be officially recorded. The parents are issued with a birth certificate showing details of the date of the child's birth, sex and name, and the names and occupations of the parents.
Clergymen must cause to be registered particulars of all baptisms, marriages and burials conducted by them.
