trade and adventure in the nature of a trade
profits from trade are the subject matter of taxation under Case I of schedule D. It has been variously described by judges although no universally accepted definition has been produced. Essentially, 'trading' connotes operations of a commercial character involving the provision to customers of goods or services for reward; an adventure in the nature of a trade connotes a single such operation.
