Set each year by the government, a threshold used in calculating an individual's entitlement to state second pension (S2P) accruals. The LET is the top of the initial 40% accrual band for S2P and the starting point for the second 10% accrual band. Individuals who receive earnings of more than the lower earnings limit (LEL) but less than the LET are deemed to earn the level of the LET. For 2009/10, the LET is set at £13,900.
