reverse engineering

reverse engineering
Reverse engineering is broadly defined to cover the process of studying a competitor's product to gain information; e.g. the ingredients, how problems are overcome, or features related to its appearance. It is prima facie legal but can be hazardous if an attempt to obtain commercial advantage from such a process is made.
