design right
A design right is granted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. It arises automatically and does not require registration. Under the Act, it protects the design of all or part of an article which does not qualify as a registered design. Excluded from design right protection are items which are designed to fit or match with other articles as spare parts. A design right will last either ten or fifteen years.
