feu duties
under a feudal system such as still exists in Scotland, the money that the vassal had to pay to his superior. By statute, feu duties are disappearing as they now have to be paid off by paying a sum that would produce a similar income on a transfer, this process being known as redemption. They are thus not all extinguished, and there is in any event no obligation to redeem an unallocated part of a cumulo feu duty, thus in tenement buildings feu duties may still be payable although the present vassal may apply to allocate the duty and, once allocated, redeem it.
