In a restructuring or workout, frequently the bank with the largest exposure and previous restructuring experience will be appointed as the lead bank. It will notify other interested banks and major creditors of a company's difficulties at the earliest opportunity and be responsible for "leading" the restructuring and managing the steering committee.
