Personal Investment Authority

Personal Investment Authority
(PIA)
The former self-regulating organisation which had sole responsibility for the retail investment industry. It governed the sale of life assurance, personal pensions, friendly society investments, unit trusts, investment trust savings schemes and financial services offered to members of the public.
When the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 came into force on 1 December 2001, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) took over PIA's business.
