England, WalesThe Government Actuary's Department is the Government department responsible for providing actuarial advice to public sector clients. Pensions practitioners most commonly deal with GAD when involved in public sector outsourcings, particularly where “broadly comparable” status is being sought for a pension scheme and a “GAD passport” is being sought as part of compliance with the "Fair Deal" guidance. Since 1989, it has required all clients to pay for its services and aims to cover its costs from fee income.
