The Rome regulation on the law applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I) applies to contracts concluded on or after 17 December 2009.

Rome Convention, or EU Convention on the law applicable to contractual obligations, was opened for signature in Rome on 19 June 1980 (OJ 1998 C27/37) and was enacted in the UK by the Contracts (Applicable Law) Act 1990, which entered into force on 1 April 1991. The Rome Convention applies to contracts concluded prior to 17 December 2009.
The Rome regulation on the law applicable to contractual obligations (Rome I) applies to contracts concluded on or after 17 December 2009.
