Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS)

Also referred to as BIS.
The UK government department responsible for building Britain's capabilities to compete in the global economy. BIS is a combination of the Department for Business, Enterprise, Regulation and Reform (BERR) and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).
BERR brought together functions from the former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), including responsibilities for enterprise, business relations, regional development, fair markets and energy policy, with the Better Regulation Executive (BRE), previously part of the Cabinet Office.
