under the Business Expansion Scheme, investment by an individual in equity capital of qualifying unquoted companies up to a maximum of £40,000 per annum may be set against his other income. See Chapter III of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 as supplemented by the Finance Act 1988.
