patriality

patriality
a concept applicable to citizens of the UK and colonies having a right of abode in the UK. Patriality can be acquired in the following ways:
(1) by being born, adopted, naturalised or registered in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man;
(2) by descent from or adoption by a parent who was within (i) above or was himself descended from or adopted by a parent who was within (i) above;
(3) by being settled at any time in the UK and Islands and having been at that time ordinarily resident there for five years or more;
(4) by marriage.
