restitutio in integrum

restitutio in integrum
'putting things back the way they were', originally a remedy in Roman law allowing a party to be restored against his own deed. It has now come to be part of the process of rescission of contract in English law and in Scots law. Generally, a party will be allowed to rescind only if he can effect restitutio in integrum.
