Sex Offenders Register

Sex Offenders Register
a (UK) register of persons convicted of certain sexual offences kept under the authority of the Sex Offenders Act 1997. Depending on the length of sentence, the offender must keep the police advised of his whereabouts. For sentences of over 30 months, the offender is under a lifelong obligation. There are arguments being put forward to extend the Act to cover offences committed abroad and for pan-European cooperation in tracking certain offenders. It is not presently a public register, no doubt for fear of vigilante action.
