1) Couples registered under domestic partnership laws in California, the District of Columbia, Maine, Oregon, and Washington State. In California, Maine, and Oregon, these couples have all the same rights and responsibilities as spouses under state law.
2) Unmarried couples of the same or opposite sex living together in committed relationships, who may be entitled to some of the same benefits as married partners under employer policies or city or county rules.
