Patent Co-operation Treaty

Patent Co-operation Treaty
A UK national or resident wishing to go through PCT (which includes most European Countries, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, and other countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas) files an application in London to obtain patents in stipulated PCT countries. The application is sent to an International Searching Authority (e.g. the branch of the European Patent office in the Hague) where a search is carried out. The stipulated countries will then process the application under their local procedures.
