It is unlawful under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 for employers to take into account certain criminal convictions in respect of which the ex-offender is considered in law to have been rehabilitated. For imprisonment between six months and two and a half years, the period is ten years, up to six months - seven years, and for fines or other sentences, five years. In respect of jobs for lawyers, accountants, teachers and the medical profession, these provisions do not apply.
