caching

caching
The local storing of electronic content, on a more or less temporary basis. Web (web) pages accessed by a user are stored in the user's cache directory on the user's hard disk. When the user returns to a web page which he has recently viewed, the web browser can access the page from the cache rather than from the original web server. The last version of a web page is stored and updated only where there is a change in the content. Caching technology is widely applied by internet access providers in order to reduce the burden of traffic on the network and so enhance speed of access to the web.
