official receiver
A civil servant who acts as a liquidator and deals with the administration of compulsory liquidations and bankruptcies. He is usually required to administer companies in liquidation where no other liquidator is appointed at the creditors and shareholders meetings.

Official Receiver
the official appointed by the Secretary of State who acts as interim receiver and manager of the estate of the debtor and presides at the first meeting of creditors. In a company winding up he often becomes provisional liquidator when a winding-up order is made.

Official Receiver
Official Receiver (OR)
An officer of the court and civil servant who deals with bankruptcies (bankruptcy) and compulsory company liquidations. He has various functions such as:
• After a petition for an insolvency order has been presented, the court may appoint him as interim receiver or provisional liquidator.
• He becomes receiver and manager when the court makes a bankruptcy order against an individual and becomes the first liquidator when the court makes a winding up order against a company.
• He investigates the conduct of bankrupts and directors.
