Some of the final documents, including the deed and mortgage or deed of trust, are then recorded in the county recorder's office. Depending on local practice, the closing is handled by a title company, escrow officer, or attorney. Also called settlement.

At the closing of a registered securities offering, the company delivers the registered securities to the underwriters in exchange for the net offering proceeds. The closing of a registered offering is held on the third or fourth business day following the date the security being offered is priced. At the closing for a private placement, the company delivers the securities to the investors in exchange for the aggregate purchase price.

1 The final step in the purchase of real property or of an interest in real property when a deed or another instrument of title is conveyed to the buyer, the purchase price or a portion thereof is paid, and collateral matters, such as the exchange or transfer of any assignments, insurance policies, leases, and mortgages, are finalized.
2 The termination of the administration of a decedent's estate after the estate's assets are distributed, taxes and other liabilities are paid, and all the necessary documents have been filed with the court.
