scale monopoly

scale monopoly
A scale monopoly under the Fair Trading Act 1973 existed if a single company (or a group of interconnected companies) supplies or acquires at least one quarter of the goods or services of a particular type in all or part of the UK. Powers of the Office of Fair Trading to investigate a scale monopoly were replaced by new market investigations powers when the relevant provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 came into force on 20 June 2003.
