European Investment Bank

European Investment Bank
(EIB) a non-profit-making body that grants loans to members or to undertakings for investment in the European territories of the member states. Other sources of finance have to be utilised in the project as well as the EIB component. It borrows funds on the ordinary capital markets. Much of the lending is done to assist in development regions of the Community to promote economic and social integration. It can lend outwith the Community and has lent to associated states and other countries, such as Turkey, African, Caribbean and Pacific states and the Maghrehb states of northwest Africa. It is run by a Board of Governors consisting of the Ministers of Finance of the member states.
